Re: Disappointed with new MacPro GPU options

OpenCL drivers should be out for windows and Linux very soon, plus Mac OS X will support them with snow leopard. OpenCL will also run on the CPU. At that point, cuda will probably just become defunct, so if you can stick with what you have until Snow Leopard comes out, then you could probably migrate.

I guess you could always install windows or linux on the mac pro and use Brook+:

Hi all,

As a developer working with CUDA I'd like to say I am very disappointed the
new MacPro only ships whith the GT120.

The Radeon might be pretty fast, but there's no GPGPU api for ATI cards and
we all know OpenCL is not here yet, leaving no option besides CUDA/ Nvidia
cards.
Sure OpenCL will be available some time, but who knows how much tweaking
(like memory coalescing, bank conflicts, ...) needs to be done to make
algorithms that run fast on NVIDIA cards also run fast for ATI cards.

Why is Apple again doing this ping/pong between a fast NVIDIA GPU on one
MacPro release, and a fast NVIDIA for the other?

I guess this means I have to wait until the next MacPro release to get a
decent NVIDIA GPU, say in maybe 9 months.
This really makes me wonder if I've chosen the correct platform for
development.
I'm getting tired of this nonsense.
