Locked desktop & desktop printers

Server: OS 9.0.4, ASIP 6.3, MM 1.2
Clients: OS 9.1, MM 1.4.1, logging into server via IP
Printers: various HP LaserJets printing via Appletalk

How can I prevent students from saving to the desktop of the local machines
and still be able to have desktop printer icons that they can use? In MM
Admin, when I check the box to lock the users' desktops, it does prevent
users from saving anything to the desktop BUT it also prevents Desktop
Printers from working correctly as well. Several classrooms have 2 or 3
different (B&W, color, large format) printers that students need access to so
I still need to be able to have access to all the printers as setup in the
admin app.

or is there a way to redirect the Desktop to the users' folders as a roaming
kinda thing under MM 1.4.1? I've had way too many problems getting OS X and
MM 2.0 to work so for now that is not an option this close to the beginning
of the semester.
