Outlook Express typing peaks out MM/AFP server

Possibly OT (a question for Microsoft?)

Outlook Express 5.02 message composition, it's OK when you're simply typing forwards (ie. making no amends). If however you do something as simple as backspace (to remove a single character), activity at the server shoots to maximum. Same for selecting + moving or deleting text in a message. MM client workstation suffers nonsensical pauses as a result.

This verified on a nice quiet day (Saturday), I was the only person connected, server otherwise completely idle. Control strip module shows the activity going to max.

What, oh what, is Outlook Express trying to do? (Why should a single person deleting a single character of a single message send server activity through the roof?)

I do know that OE uses the same cache.waf file as IE (and through IE preferences, cache.waf is working nicely in :Application Support: folder).

I doubt there's any resolution, but maybe someone can at least explain what's going on. If it's not the cache.waf file (that's local), then with which remote file(s) is IE doing this excessive afp activity?

Replies on a postcard. I'll send the sack to Microsoft.

Cheers
Graham
