Server RAM requirements

What is meant by concurrent users or simultaneous clients? When I first
read this, I thought that meant individuals who were logged in at one time.
However, now I am wondering if it refers to machines that are turned on at
one time or who are connecting to the MM welcome screen. We often have 70 -
90 users logged in, and 150 or more machines turned on.

Normally, we turn 3 labs of computers on in the morning, and leave them on
all day. They are turned on at slightly different times, not all at once.
Friday, one lab of 25 8.6 imacs was turned off near the end of the day and a
class came in. When they were all turned on at the same time, about 1/3 of
them could not find the server. After the first ones had connected and
students logged in, then the remaining ones could be connected or restarted
and were able to connect. This is somewhat routine

My question is this: Might this a network/switch/traffic problem, or is
this a memory problem on our server - do we need more RAM?
By Steve's formula, we should be fine - G4, OS 9.04, with 512M ram. Our
networked is more than 50% switched (more switches are being added....) and
all the imacs that had this problem are switched.
