Re:Running programs from CDROM images

Here is how I like to run cd's off the server:

1)create a read/write disk image of the cd with disk copy
2)run the installer and then copy the program application back to the disk image (if needed)
3)delete extra's that you don't need (ex: aol installer)
4)use disk copy to make a read only disk image of the mounted read/write disk image (saves space)

Then make a disk script

1) make a blank text file with simple text and add this:

MountedCdname:Application Name
:name_of_disk_image_file

ex:

We have a disk image called Prejudice CD.img and when mounted it mounts as Prejudice CD and the app I want to run is named Prejudice

Prejudice CD:Prejudice
:Prejudice CD.img

Then save the text file as name.scr Then using resedit change the creator code to ddsk and the type to hscr and save.

Then copy these files to your document server, make sure they are both in the same folder. Make sure Multiple Users User has read rights to these files.

Then in MMAdmin add the disk script to the approved applications list using the find button and navigate to the script on the server and make sure users can "Open approved items on removable media".

If everything goes well users will see program.scr on the application list and when the open the script it should mount the disk image and then run the program on the disk image.

Hope that makes sense.
