User workstation not displaying "offline" button

The last couple of mornings, I've been delayed in getting our server
restarted (from leaving disk optimization running overnight). A couple
of classroom teachers have reported that they only had the buttons
"Finder" "Choose Server" and "Shut Down", despite being selected within
the Macintosh Manager administration program to have the ability to work
offline without a password. I verified that the computer is assigned to
the correct hardware group and that that checkbox is cleared, allowing
them offline access without requiring an administrator's password. Has
anyone else had this problem and been able to come up with a solution?
