Re: can't find server on network

Anne,
Yes, we've seen this all too often, but not with OS 9 machines. Do the machines eventually find the server if you wait long enough - sometimes as much as 15 minutes? One thing to check - are the TCP and AppleTalk CPs in the Secured Items folder (System Folder)? This is still an issue with system 8.1 machines, but I haven't seen it with OS 9.

In a similar vein, I've seen my new iMacs pause for several seconds after booting on the "Can't find server" message consistently since I installed CyberpatrolLAN. Anybody know what's causing the pause, and how it can be eliminated?

Okay, just one more! I've set MM to be able to work offline, but when the 8.1 machines can't find the server, the offline option is not displayed. Ideas why and how to fix? (BTW, when I enabled the Offline option, the machines correctly displayed the Offline button and I trained the staff on how to click Offline and then Option-Restart. Now those same machines have "forgotten" about the Offline button.)

Cheers,
Peter

Subject: can't find server on network

I have a lab of iMacs with OS 9 running Mac Manager 1.3. Lately I seem to
be having a problem with computers not finding the server on the network.
It will be one or two computers (and not the same ones - it's quite random)
that when they start up will say "Can't find server on network." You can
pick server, go to finder, or shut down. The odd thing is that the little
yellow flag that says "Your Appletalk Network is now available" also comes
up. When I go to finder I see that the computer is on the network and when
I go to the chooser, the server is listed, but if I try to connect to the
server through file sharing it thinks for a little bit, then says "cannot
connect to server." I try restarting and it still comes up the same way.
I don't understand how it can be on the network, but not have MM come up on
startup. It does come back up if I turn the computer off for a few hours.
Anyone else seen this? Any ideas?
