iBooks Disconnect from Network when Sleeping

Whenever my students put their iBooks to sleep, the computers disconnect
from the network and will not reconnect when they wake up. If a student
has been working on a doc, they can't save it or see their file in Mac
Man. Only if they logout to the Mac Man Login Screen can they reconnect.
Is there a solution to this I'm missing? Can Airport connections to Mac
Man be reestablished if the iBook is put to sleep, thus allowing the
student to keep working from wherever they left off?
