Re: TCP/IP & AppleTalk Control Panels

Jim,

Your problem is that users are not logging out, they are simply turning off the computer. You can check your log to find out who these users are. Can't tell you what to to prevent this behavior in the future; that's up to you and your principal.

I can tell you how to fix the problem when it occurs though. Macintosh Manager moves these control panels into the Secured Items folder and changes their resource for security. Once a user logs out, they are moved back into the System: Control Panels folder. When you encounter a machine like this, simply login with System Access (Command-Option-Escape at the log in screen & provide the owner password), then log back out. Macintosh Manager will then change the resource back and move the control panels for you. All should be fine at this point.

Subject: Lost CMOS settings & MM 1.3
From: Jim Cash-GPS <email@hidden>
To: <email@hidden>

I have some 5200/75LC clients running Mac OS 8.1 & Macintosh Manager 1.3 in
the panels environment. Some of these have dead CMOS batteries and
apparently the big signs on the computer that say "DON'T TURN OFF" might as
well be written in Sanskrit. The issue is that somehow all the Apple Menu
Items, a couple of key control panels and an extension are moved into the
Secured Items Folder in the System Folder. I tried moving them back in
manually but the TCP/IP & AppleTalk control panels are no longer functional.
What gives here and can I prevent it from happening in the future? If it's
not preventable, how can I fix it without having to add TCP/IP & AppleTalk
from a floppy?
