LaserWriter Printing Questions

I 'm still having trouble getting my printer settings correct for my
LaserWriter printers. I use three printers an Apple LaserWriter8500, an
Apple LWIIg (still going strong!) and a Phaser 850N printer. I have created
desktop printers on all computers, sat at one computer as a restricted
finder user and set up all printers with the options as I prefer them:
LW8500 - Duplex printing, foreground printing
LWIIg - Background printing (only used by teachers)
Phaser 850N - Fast color, foreground printing.
I placed the resulting Printing Prefs folder in the Forced Prefs folder. It
contains the LaserWriter 8 prefs, Printing Plug-in prefs and the Parsed PPD
Folder which contains PPDs for each of the above printers as well as a
generic PPD.
When a user logs in, the LW8500 and IIg seem to be keeping the preferences
as I set them up. However the Phaser850N defaults to background printing
and Standard color.
What am I missing - how do I make the printer settings stick for the
Phaser850N?

I have desktop printing enabled on all my computers - would disabling this
help?
