Re: Subject: How can i store MM user's docs on the os x server?

Anton,

Welcome to your new career in network administration.

Basically, Macintosh Manager follows the client/server model. The client
accesses an MM server that stores the users preferences and files or file
location. You can use the default server location (/Library/Macintosh
Manager) or create and specify the folder(s) location. The latter method
offers the greatest flexibility, even in small environments. (/Home Docs/
Don Tirrell)

In small environments, the users storage location is often the same server;
in bigger environments the users storage location will be on other servers
too - mac (Mac OS X & ASIP), as well as microsoft (NT/2000) or novell
(netware 3/4/5x & 6) or various unix/linux running netatalk/cap.

Mac Manager does allow users to store locally but for the vast majority of
users this should be avoided. You can designate where a user can find
applications - local to the CPU, on the Network or combination.

You probably did nothing wrong at the server and the problem that you might
be having relates to the client side -- This is where additional confusion
is generated as there are several different versions of the Mac Manager
client - it appears that you're using 1.4.1 or earlier version. If this is
the case, make sure that the control panel Multiple Users is set to access
the network (MM Server) and not the local cpu Multiple Users settings. Click
the "options" button then the "other" button to set "Macintosh Manager
account". Use the link to download the appropriate MM client - use the auto
update feature (as described in the link below) - it works very nicely;
expect an auto reboot.
