RE MM2.1.1 and Login problems

I have a few users that, when they enter name and password and select
login, will begin the login process. Then, depending on the computer they
are sitting at (all are iMacs of varying flavors/ages running 9.2.2) will 1.
be logged out immediately or 2. hose at the prefs loading and return to the
login menu with a message that the app login has unexpectedly quit.
What's up?

I had the exact same problem this week at an elementary building. Not a
single student could login without being logged back out. Looking at the
users folders on the server, I discovered that they did not own their home
directories. I imported all users with Passenger, placing them into the
3student2 sharepoint. Staff, who went to a different sharepoint, worked
fine. So I have no clue what went wrong. I deleted all students, started
over with a new import, and all was well.
