File Exchange

I have three schools with MacOS 8.6 and 9.2.2 and Macintosh
Manager 2.1.1. Can anyone tell me if putting File Exchange into Forced
Preferences is a good or bad idea? Apparently the default settings are
less than ideal and it would be nice to set, for example, JPEGView as the
default program for *.jpg files.
