Hand Out in Panels

Every time I try to do a handout in a Panels group my handout machines machines freeze. I have tried different machines. No students get a handout folder in their document storage area. Has something changed in MM 2.1 to break the handout feature?

(I actually temporarily change a group to panels when I need to do a handout because the feature has never been supported in restricted finder)
