I do this by creating two groups for each group of students (however your orgainize them - I do by year of graduation). A regular group has access to all allowed apps (rather than all apps as you say you do) The advantage of this is that you can
block specific apps from being used by students, such as teacher only apps.

I then create an exact duplicate of the group with no students, and call it Grad 2004 No Net (or whatever). The only difference between this and Grad 2004 group is that the Not Net version does not have access to IE. This I can move a student
between groups depending on whether they need or are allowed internet access.

Much simpler, and much better control than trying to do some kind of applescript voodoo. IMHO.
