Mac Imaging

Hello,

I am looking at a number of different Mac Imaging methods.

RevRdist seems to be an old, but reliable and flexible system to use

The main drawback of RevRdist appears to be its relative complexity.
- But that is also where its flexibility lies.

I know your script would NOT work for us - since it's quite specific,
but I would be grateful if you could send me a copy of your control script for me to look at

I am particularly interested in the bit you mention below:

I have written a control file for my Macs that dynamicly
decides what hardware it is running on, how much RAM is installed, whether
a scanner is attached, and what lab it is installed in. Based on this
information it decides what files need to be installed - drivers unique to
the model, scanner software, how much to set the Virtual memory to (yeah,
lots of my Macs are very RAM starved). Also, each of my labs has a
unique set of software installed (licensing issues) so RevRdist only
installs the software for that lab.

I don't know RevRdist - I am just at the very early stages of looking into this.

- But flags & things don't worry me

- achieving what I want to do is of greater concern, so I am interested in flexibility.

- it also occurs to me that this solution is closer to the one I am likely to adopt for OS X
(I know RevRdist does not work with OSX) when we finally get there.

I would also be interested in hearing any advice or comments you may have, on this or on the general topic.

ASR: Apple Software Restore

I have used this successfully - once

I later tried to use again but had problems - but I think this was due to some software faults on my machine at the time - I am going to be looking at this again very shortly.

My personal opinion is that a mixture of both methods would be better then either alone.
ASR seems to be good for whole disk restores, but not so good for 'patching'

- It wants to always restore everything (with some options)
