Re: iMac firewire

Hi All,

We are in the market for some small pocket-sized firewire hard drives to
use for imaging our macs (and possibly PCs too). One of the vendors
that we are looking at says that the new flat panel iMacs do not
generate enough power through the firewire port to power their drive, so
you have to use a separte AC adapter. Does anyone know if this a common
problem with the white iMacs? Can anyone suggest a portable firewire
drive which is known to work with (and get power from) the new flat
panel iMacs? Thanks for any advice you can give!

I've powered an external firewire drive from flat-panel iMacs with no problem. But note that mine is actually a laptop drive that I put into a firewire case. Perhaps I could get away with it due to lower power demands of a small drive mechanism.
