Re: iMac firewire

I thought Apple's firewire power was standard. If it does not work on a white iMac I would venture to say that it does not work on a Grey PowerMac or any other. I understood ieee1394 to be the same, and Apple (Firewire) added power to the bus. Maybe it's not a standard option. Apple Technotes could possible provide more.

Hi All,

We are in the market for some small pocket-sized firewire hard drives to
use for imaging our macs (and possibly PCs too). One of the vendors
that we are looking at says that the new flat panel iMacs do not
generate enough power through the firewire port to power their drive, so
you have to use a separte AC adapter. Does anyone know if this a common
problem with the white iMacs? Can anyone suggest a portable firewire
drive which is known to work with (and get power from) the new flat
panel iMacs? Thanks for any advice you can give!
