How can we force the user that he cannot use the initial password. When the student start the imaged machine for the first time we want to present him a dialog where he must change his password.

Under Linux there is a change time for passwords. In "man 5 passwd" we found that under MacOS X this should also be possible. But what is the corect syntax and is it also written to Netinfo?

Yes it is written to netinfo. look at the netinfo entry for the user "nobody" or any of the default accounts there is an "expire" entry. That entry is normally set to 0. It can be set to a date that expires the password. I remember vaguely that setting it to -1 will expire it immediately. Maybe 0 will expire it immediately since that should be jan 1, 1970.
