OSX 10.0.4 upgrade

I need to go from OSX server 10.0.4 to 10.1.4 (according to my SE and
800-APPL) and I have 10.1.2 install CD. I was told the easiest way to do
this is to export my users, reformat the drive, install 10.1.2 and upgrade
to .4, and re-create my sharepoints & users. Apparently you can't
upgrade directly with the CD I have (the drive shows grayed-out). Any
suggestions, help?
