iMac as a server?

Hello all,

I'm currently working on moving our lab up to 10.2 (from OS 9) and I'm experimenting with Open Directory and Network Install in order to simplify things. Due to budget constraints, the only machine I have to turn into a server is an old iMac 333 w/ 256 megs of RAM and a 60 gig HD. So far I've had nothing but problems with running 10.2 server on this machine. Server Status or Server Settings will refuse to authenticate after about ten minutes. Imaging over the network will sometimes produce corrupted workstations. NFS either won't stop, won't start, or just plain hangs. Everything feels like it should work, but doesn't. Mind you, I'm not putting a really big load on this box. Twenty clients tops.

Has anyone else had experience with running 10.2 server on an older iMac? If it's been done successfully then I'll look into getting this old iMac fixed. If other people have had similar experiences then I'll scrap the idea and wait until next fiscal year to put in a proper server.
