Re: Virtual PC

A valid question is... What is it, exactly, that requires Virtual PC? I'm all about Macs, but I do concede that there ARE some applications that my mac users need. As much as I try to persuade them otherwise, I'd rather see them use Virtual PC than to give up using a Mac entirely just for one or two applications.

So I'd ask what needs Virtual PC and see if there is an alternative for that application that is mac-based. Then tell them about the added administrative overhead in maintaining a bubble-gum and shoestring solution. IMO, vPC is exactly that.

But none of this is relevant to your question. They already made their decision, right? The biggest gotcha I had with vPC was the networking. Back in the day (over 3 yrs ago), the vPC I had needed its own IP number. Now that we're using DHCP, that isn't so much of an issue, but if you're using static IPs, you should give this extra attention.

G'luck!

After being beaten about the head and shoulders by a school board member at a public meeting about using Macs, we have decided to include Virtual PC in our soon to be purchased new eMac lab. I plan on imaging each machine and am hoping the inclusion of Virtual PC will not muck up the works. Has anyone else done this and are there any gotcha's I need to look out for when I build the image and clone the machines?

TIA
