It's also likely in a lot of Edu establishments that you already HAVE a Windows 2000 Server with Terminal Services just disabled there and all you need to do is add Terminal Server licenses.

Max out the RAM on the server. Seriously. Max it out. It's cheap. And if you can, use a machine with dual or quad processors. The first time we used it we were using Citrix Metaframe (before it became Terminal Server) on a dual-233 PPro. I was running Windows NT 3.51 on my Powerbook 1400 over a modem link.

Also it saves a packet on disk space. VPC images are hefty these days.
