Scripting Safari default download location

Hi all -

I'd like to be able to script (or otherwise modify) the default download
location in Safari 1.2.2. At the moment, downloading to the user's desktop
is inconvenient since we use mounted AFS home directories, so it's less than
ideal for users to be downloading large files directly into that space.

The appropriate value seems to live in
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconfig.plist, but it's not a regular
text value. Is there a good way to script changing this preference file on
login?
