DNS question

Hello All

Background info :

We have a separate Student network with its own DNS & DHCP (Windows based)
The Mac's are on a seperate VLAN on the student network.

Directory Services set up for AppleTalk, LDAPv3 & Rendezvous (disabling all
makes no difference)

No OSX Server.

My query is when I attach a newly acquired G5 1.8 to this student network it
acquires a host from what I assume is the DNS.

In the Terminal I get this: 149\032mac\03210:~ admin$

When I do a "hostname" in the Terminal I get multiple hosts of the same
format.

I do recognize the hostnames as other Mac's on the network ?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
