Re: Feedback requested: ARD2/PHP/NetRestore deployment solution

Mike,
Let me see if I'm understanding this correctly, and please correct me if I'm wrong... ARD 2 saves info from client workstations into a database, presumably on the client where you run it. NetRestore can run post action scripts. You can put ARD 2's database on a server. If you put it on a server, you can point the modified version of NetRestore to it for use with post run scripts. In this fashion, renaming a machine would be as simple as adding that machine to ARD 2. And of course, having the proper post run script.

Two questions:
1. I cannot run the modified version of NetRestore on my G4 laptop. It launches but nothing ever comes up and I have to force quit. Is this because I don't have ARD2 installed?

2. I'm not getting the part about putting the database on the server. Does this mean that, if you run ARD 2 on your Mac, you need to re-copy the database to the server each time you make a change?

This is extremely cool stuff. I'm currently using a text file of my machines for renaming, using your default rename post run script. I'm exporting info out of ARD 1 and then parsing the info into the format used by the text file. This new approach would eliminate the middleman. There are many cool things that could be done with this. Great job, once again!
