Just looking into this myself. AFAIK there are 4 packages (with approx street price). These can easily be found by going to Versiontracker <http://www.versiontracker.com> and searching for "OCR" software.

1. Omnipage $150
2. Read Iris $130
3. Working Papers $ 99
4. ABBYY Finereader $130 <http://www.abbyy.com/macfinereader> (Classic??? according to their website)

I have used the last in the lite edition and it has a version 5 that is native OS X. This came with the epson scanner I got. I have not tested it extensively but it worked for a few test cases. My question if anyone has done a comparison or review of how these handle scientific documents (ie formulas, diagrams, subscripts, accuracy etc).

In going to versiontracker my self, there is also a new freeware OCR app that might be worth checking out. <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/23322>. The reviews don't seem all that good at the moment but it might improve. <http://www.digiteyeocr.free.fr/index.php?lang=en>
