rsyncX scan time

We are in the throes of getting ready for OS X deployment in our labs.

We have a G4 running 10.3 server and RsyncX Server. The "Master" Mac is a 17" G4 iMac.

After the initial upload of the image to the server, subsequent runs of our rsync scripts take upwards of 7 minutes just to determine that there are no files to copy. The image consists of the Mac's HD in "out-of-the-box" condition plus a few minor tweaks, most notably the addition of the rsync scripts.

Is there any way to cut down on this? Can I provide more information (scripts)?

Our OS 9 images have about 40,000 files and good ol' Assimilator blows through them in about 90 seconds (when there's nothing to download)!

TIA,
...ROMeyn
