Using something like passwd for example, when you tell it you want to change a password and type:

passwd username

the system brings up a prompt asking for the new password. Then, it wants to confirm it (logical choice).

Some programs take their input from stdinput. You can make them take their
input from a file instead using the command-line.

myprog parameters < input.txt

So you would prepare input.txt beforehand, then execute that command.

Or using ftp and an example...

ftp ftp.domain.tld

use curl instead. 'man curl' for formats.
