You probably don't, actually. It sounds like the PC is reporting the
serial connection speed between your phone and the PC (while the Mac
is reporting the connect speed).

Are you _sure_ you're getting more bandwith when you connect with the
PC (try downloading a file from a known-fast ftp server from both
machines).
