Server cost compare

Just thought I would let everyone know I just compared the cost of an Apple
G4 Tower to an Xserver.

Well, it seems as thought you can't get the plain jane server anymore! So
upset with no internal SCSI support, I decided I would build my own.

Compared

Tower G4 DP 512MB ram $2203 to Xserve G4 DP 512MB ram 3679.
Tower comes with 80 gb IDE ---- Xserve comes with 60gb IDE
Add ATTO SCSI for $417 ---- Xserve add U160 Card for $180
Add 2 36gb SCSI raid 1 $788 ---- Xserve add 2nd 60 gb IDE $315
Add OSX Server UNL. $499 ---- Xserve comes with UNL. OSXS

Total cost Tower = $3907.00

Total cost Tower = $4174.00

Now, I don't know about you, but the Tower seems like a better deal. You
get 152GB of Storage space vs. 120. You also get SCSI I/O vs the IDE I/O if
you remove the IDE drive from the Tower setup. I also would rather have the
Dual Channel ATTO card than the card that may come with the Xserve. I am
limited by the nice Utils I get with the Xserve and not with the OSXS boxed
set. But I am willing to take that for the other gains. I wonder why apple
doesn't sell that server any longer. Seems like some of us can only afford
so much and they are not really compensating the boxes for the price. You
get much less in the Xserve than you did with the tower. On top of that I
would like a 1U server, but not at that cost.

Anyway. HAGW.

Thanks
