Hi Web-Admin,

I've got a question regarding Apache and authorization.

Somewhere I've heard that I could tell Apache to authorize users not only via ".htpasswd" but also via NetInfo - and those users already available on the machine. The only description I found via Google was in French and not very detailed. Is there an official documentation or a good HowTo?

Hi Mark.

If you're running OS X server, then you can do this straight off the bat with your realms. Just drag the relevant user from Server Admin into the realm definition.

If you're running OS X client, then you need to install the module "mod_auth_apple", from this page.:

http://developer.apple.com/darwin/projects/darwin/darwinserver/

You can then simply do stuff in your conf files like:

AuthName "AuthNetInfo"
AuthType Basic
Require group ComputingServicesUnit

or

AuthName "AuthNetInfo"
AuthType Basic
Require group nkersten

where those users and groups are from NetInfo. I've done this successfully with OS X (not server).
