Best Os 9 Configuration to be used for OS X

Hi All
I'm currently having lots of problems with my Os 9 compatible software
that are running under the Os 10.1.4 machines.
All these applications are crashing a lot especially under heavy load,
for example if I open director 8.5 and flash 5.0 and do a copy from
Flash and past to Director of a large file, Director will crash.

Here is my OS 9 configuration:

Appletalk is OFF
Virtual Memory is OFF
Remember recent items is OFF

Any suggestions ? Is my problem related to memory management ?? should I
increase the memory allocated to each program in OS 9 ?
