Re: Sendmail burden on OS X Server?

Correct me if I am wrong, but it sounds like you are running sendmail in smtp mode (-bd). If the machine is simply sending emails out, you don't have to run it is a deamon. if it is recieving email then you do. There will be no real performace issues if it is simply fired up once and a while to send the results of an shell script, even if it is running in smtp, you should not run into any real performace issues.

however, if you don't need to run it in stmp mode, you should not, simply because it can be used as an entry way into your system, or abused by spammers
