I have an internal slave 70 GB IDE Maxtor drive (HFS Extended) running on a G4 dual OS X server. In OS 9 it can be shared across the network with ASIP. In OS X server, it will not share. OS X server will not even identify it as a shareable item.

The ability to share a disk is supported by the driver installed on the
disk. If the disk was formatted with a third-party utility such as
Silver Lining then you may find that OS X cannot do all the things with
it that it can do with a disk formatted with Drive Setup.

Did your hard disk come with third-party formatting utilities ? Can it
be reformatted using 'Disk Utility' ?
