Don't have one. Or keep a bootable drive with retrospect installed on
an external firewire or USB drive so you can do the restores w/o
having to start from bare metal.
I have been using retrospect (server 10.1.4) for quite some time now-
but due to some hardware requests from my users, I am going to endup with
a spare portable hard drive - so I am getting a Firewire case for it -
and am going to install
CCC - and have it clone *at least* the OS to the firewire drive, and
shedule it to do backups of the OS too.

Why not just use psync or rsync. It's easier to script and cron.

Then in theory - if the server OS drive fails, I can in minutes, be up
and running and can defer the repair until a non peak time.

It takes about an hour or two to copy a drive. Look at the data sizes, look at the poor transfer rates of firewire/IDE drives, and do some quick math. .

Also I
should then be able to avoid the restrospect OS re-install jig easily
enough by simply CCC cloning the OS from the firewire drive back to the
(new?) OS drive in the server.

As I said, that's not an operation measured in minutes.
