Doesn't Jaguar Server run on new G4s?

I just bought a new 1GHz G4 (the ones that started shipping today, with the
FW 800). Much to my annoyance, the boot drive from my old server (a G4
Platinum with OS X Server 10.2.3) wouldn't boot in this new machine. The
Open Firmware boot chooser doesn't show the boot drive, and trying anyway
produces a flashing "?" folder.

When booting from the new G4's install DVD, DiskUtility sees the old boot
disk and says that it's fine.

The new G4 has 10.2.3 on it, though a later build than my other 10.2.3 Macs.
Do I have to wait for an OS X Server update to run on this G4? Any idea how
long Apple takes to produce an update like this?
