I am noticing some problems on my network and looking for a good_______________________________________________
way to verify network stability and packet loss. I'm running a small
switched network, 4 OS X servers and MM OS 9 clients. The problems
I am noticing are mostly printer related. Print jobs seem to disappear.
About 70 percent of the print jobs go through just fine but the rest either
take forever to print or never do.
The printer showing the most errors is also the most heavily used. Its a new
HP Laserjet 4200n and I don't think its the printer. All my printers are using
Appletalk to print. I use Whistle Blower to monitor the network and ping the
printers and it never seems to lose contact with them.
I have several Asante 10 and 10/100 unmanaged switches (to be replaced
soon) and a new Netgear 10/100 switch on the floor with the printer in question.
I know the switch the others connect to is in very bad shape (its been through
much construction and dust) how can I be sure this is the problem?
