problem connecting to Xserve from Windows

When attempting to connect to the Xserve from a Windows PC, an "incorrect
password or unknown user name for: \\servername" message is displayed, along
with a reprompt for name and password.

I did try the "EnablePlainTextPassword" change in the registry (which has
fixed similar problems connecting Win2K to various Unix boxes), but it did
not work. I turned it back off after I noticed that the smb.conf file
specifies "encrypt password = yes".

Any advice as to how to fix this problem is appreciated.
