It depends on what kind of connection you have from home, and whether or not you have a firewall in place in front of your server. I wouldn't recommend using it over dialup, but you could certainly try it. If you have a broadband connection it should be fine.

If you have a firewall or router in front of the server, you'll have to do some configuring on that end to let traffic pass to the server on UDP port 3283. <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106439>
