Use sendmail (comes with the OS) or exim (or...) as the SMTP server, and
have that pass the mail to AMS. That way, you can use SpamAssassin (and
a whole bunch more stuff too) AND retain your MailDB.

There are articles on ish.com about setting up sendmail, and afp548.com
for exim, that explain what needs to be done. I'm just finishing the
exim installation on my server this week.
