Re: Does Apple Mail Server Work?

Check the archives. In my experience, if you only have a few users (<50, maybe?) and they're using POP not IMAP (so their email gets pulled off of the server regularly), then AMS seems to work OK. For larger numbers of users, and/or IMAP usage, AMS is (to put it kindly) one big throbbing hemorrhoid.

Well, John... that is maybe just a wee bit harsh. It is not the best E-mail server out there. That distinction would go to Communigate Pro. AMS is terrific for a limited number of users (<50, maybe?,) and has shortcomings if you are serving E-mail to more than one domain.

I like it for my installations because the usernames and passwords for file sharing and E-mail are one and the same without any additional administration. If you want SPAM and virus filtering at the server, go with CGP. Otherwise, AMS is "pretty good, " or at least "OK."
