I'm guessing here that you are speaking of Apple's software RAID, not the
product named SoftRAID.

If you ssh in when booted from the installer disk you can use diskutil to
create your RAID set.

Strange. It should show as one volume just fine.

We use boot mirrors at several sites and it has been very reliable.
