importing mbox mailstore files into 10.3 mail store

Is there a recommended way of injecting mbox-style mailstores (from Qpopper) into the system used by 10.3? I've found some perl scripts at

<http://acs-wiki.andrew.cmu.edu/twiki/bin/view/Cyrus/MboxCyrusMigration>

but knowing apple sometimes implements things 'differently' I thought I might ask what others have done. Thanks in advance.
