OK I didn't mean to sound like such an ass, but that "Ahem" haughty attitude (Sorry, just HAD to say that) gets old real fast. The fact is this advice shouldn't be given without big red flags:

-give the user a shell of /bin/false
-don't give any non admin users ssh access to the server
-make the password 8 chars long, choose a combination of letters, numbers and special characters

Keep in mind these credentials go over the wire in the clear. The idea of creating a specific group for this is a good one, except cupsd.conf has a high likelihood of being overwritten when Apple upgrades cups.

And actually, yeah, I'd say that not requiring authentication is preferable to putting an easy-to-crack password into an admin user record. Unless we're talking really expensive consumables here, and in that case you really need a more sophisticated authentication platform. There are lots of variables, but the idea is that even a pretty good crypt() password is easy to crack on modern hardware.
