RE: Routing AppleTalk across OS X Server 10.3

Hello,

I am no expert!

Appletalk is not a routable protocol.

I do have a question, why don't you use IP printing?

IP printing can be set up easily.

If you do not want to us IP printing, you can try and setup an appletalk zone on the private side. I don't know if you can pass a Appletalk zone through a Firewall or not but I do know that you can route Appletalk Zones through a router.

I hope this helps.

---------------

Hello,

I am using NAT, DHCP and the Firewall to create a bridge between a public
network on en0 and a private network on en1. One the En0 public side are
wired network connections to AppleTalk printers and servers. On the
private En1 side are Airport wireless access points that are set to
bridging mode with DHCP and nat being provided by the OSX Server 10.3
cluster node box.

On the public side there is an active AppleTalk zone and I would like to
be able to rout AppleTalk across the two interfaces so that people on the
private En1 side can see and connect to AppleTalk printers that are on
the wired public side.

Has anyone done this?

Right now I cannot route the AppleTalk across the server's two
interfaces. Users on the wireless side can access TCP/IP services. And
yes we do have AppleTalk turned on for both En0 and En1. The firewall has
a rule allowing any to any for ports 201-208.

One point of interest is the following System Log entries:
