Re: Server Monitor Woes

Hi,

I have just set up a G5 xserve running Server 10.3.4 and all is working well with the exception of Server Monitor. I launch Server Monitor both locally and remotely , type in the relevant connection details when prompted but cannot connect to the xserve. I get the following responses :

"Response not understood" or "Incorrect username or password" or just hangs at "waiting for response".....

Pull up a terminal and type:

ps ax | grep hwmond

If the only process that comes back is your grep process, then the monitoring software isn't running - which is exactly what happened when I got my last Xserve G5.

Edit /etc/watchdog.conf in your favorite text editor.

At the very end of the file you'll see a number of definitions for processes that watchdog should spawn. Assuming there's no definition for hwmond, add one as follows:
hwmond:respawn:/usr/sbin/hwmond # Hardware Monitor daemon

Then send a SIGHUP to the watchdog daemon or, if your uptime doesn't matter, just rebooting will also do the trick.

HTH.
