Server Monitor Woes

Hi,

I have just set up a G5 xserve running Server 10.3.4 and all is working well with the exception of Server Monitor. I launch Server Monitor both locally and remotely , type in the relevant connection details when prompted but cannot connect to the xserve. I get the following responses :

"Response not understood" or "Incorrect username or password" or just hangs at "waiting for response".....

I have restarted Server Monitor several times , restarted the xserve , deleted and then re-added the server in Server Monitor but still no luck. I have also deleted the Server Monitor prefs.

Any thoughts / suggestions would be very welcome.
