how to stop postfix?

I am at a loss as to how to stop Postfix. When I send the stop command this shows up in the logs:

Oct 15 15:58:39 localhost postfix/postfix-script: stopping the Postfix mail system Oct 15 15:58:39 localhost postfix/master[1301]: terminating on signal 15 Oct 15 15:58:40 localhost postfix/master[1393]: daemon started -- version 2.0.10

It immediately restarts and I can't seem find the daemon to stop it. I have removed the Postfix folder from the startupitems folder and reboot even to no avail.

I am pretty certain I will be red-faced embarrassed when one of you points out my oversight...
