disk mounting

Hi folks,
I'm trying to backup some data from XServe over the network to FW disk. I found very weird problem:
The FW disk is connected to 10.2 client, where a non admin user (maria) is logged. It appears on the desktop and I'm connected through ssh to the client machine. The problem is, that even I'm root on the client machine, every folder/file created has _maria_ owner. I tried different ways of mounting disk but it's still the same.
What do I wrong?
